Care for your Air Conditioner and saving electricity

Run your air conditioner at 24 to save power

Don’t run your air con at the lowest temp for long periods as it will cause compressor failure and increase your power bill

Use cooling or heating mode not [auto mode]

Keep all doors and windows closed bathroom & toilets inc

Insulate ceilings to cut running costs

Clean filters every 6 weeks

Run your air con  every 2mts for at least 20 minutes

Get your air con serviced every 6mts [ home situation]

Keep your outside condenser clean from weeds and dirt. To keep out insects and prevent  rusting.

Keep condensate drain free of insects to avoid blockages

Do not put air conditioner above electrical goods [TV, Computers] to avoid water overflow if condensate drain problem

Care for your Remote Control

Your Air Conditioner remote control has 2-4 Batteries that need to be changed every year

These batteries might leak into the PC board of the remote control, this will cause damage to the electronics and destroy your remote, if this happens you might have to replace it or sometimes we can clean it out for a small fee, and possibility get if working again for you.

We carry a universal remote control that will suit several Air Conditioners, or we can order you a new remote

So why not save the hassle of remote problems and replace your batteries in all your remote controls every year [1stJanuary is a good day].

Did you know that if your remote control is broken you can operate your air conditioner by the emergency run button or switch [normally located under the front cover at the right hand end] this will select about 23 degrees [heating or cooling depending on the time of year]

Keep smiling

Heating and Air conditioning

· If you're using electric heating and air-conditioning and your home isn't properly insulated; this is something you should attend to as soon as possible as heating and cooling are incredibly energy intensive applications. You'll be amazed how much you can save (and therefore earn) by ensure gaps around windows and doors are sealed up and your home is properly insulated. Also consider the use of blackout curtains as windows are major point of heat loss during winter and heat gain over summer.

· Ceiling fans aren't just good for summer, but for winter too - if you install a ceiling fan with a reversible direction function. During winter, set it to spin the opposite way it does over summer, which will push heat down.

· Roof turbines  can dramatically decrease the temperature of your roof space during summer, which in turn will decrease the temperature of the rooms below, particularly if your roof isn't insulated. Even over winter they are of benefit as they reduce moisture in the roof area which can affect the performance of insulation.

· Keep the doors shut to rooms that don't require heating or cooling

· Experiment with your air conditioning and heating thermostat. By dropping the temperature a little over winter and raising it similarly over the summer, your family may not even notice - and you'll save a stack of electricity.

A well maintained heating and cooling system will help ensure maximum efficiency, so ensure yours is serviced regularly.

Geckos,

Geckos are causing a lot of problems in Air Conditioners,

Sometimes they can cause the PC boards to short out and this can be the cause of your Air Conditioner not operating, Some Air Conditioner brands will not cover the repairs under warranty. Also replacement parts are no longer available for older units and cheap China brands.

This is the main reason we like to recommend Panasonic brands [as the PC boards have been sealed to prevent this damage]

New Energy Rating standards for Air Conditioners

In 2009, the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) were revised for air conditioners. Part of the revision was the introduction of new energy rating stickers, as continued performance improvements left all products rating 4 to 6 stars under the old scale.

To find out what all this means for you, check out the following PDF's:

Helpful Hints

When you are talking Air Conditioners, bigger is not always better, if you oversize your  Air Conditioners for your rooms, not only are you paying too much for the Air Conditioner itself but you may end up with a power bill that costs more than it should.

Below is a quick guide to the right size Air Conditioner for each size room.
A/C units listed here are for average Australian conditions, if the room is exposed to the Western Sun or other heat factors your room may require a larger A/C unit. Also the amount of glass in a given room can affect the A/C unit size required.

Room Type/Size

A/C Unit

Average Bedroom or Office up to 22sqM

2.5 kW

Large Bedroom/Office/Lounge up to 35sqM

Is your Air Conditioner leaking water?

There could be a number of problems. Maybe one of the reasons below might help.

  • The indoor fan coil will ice up due to a couple of reasons, low gas to the condenser, Condenser coils may need cleaning.
  • Blockage in condensate drainage, this can be caused from buildup of dirt and dust in the drain tray or vermin in the drain pipe
  • Temperature set below 20 degrees for a long period [this can cause fan coils to ice up and do major damage to compressor motor]
  • All electrical appliances needed to be kept away from under your Air Conditioner to avoid possible damage due to water leaks

Note; All of the above can be avoided by regular servicing and maintenance of your Air Conditioner
